I enjoy watching Dancing with the Stars and seeing celebrities from various genres attempting to compete as wannabe professionals. I have watched each season unfold with numerous uncoordinated stars and some very coordinated stars who appeared to be more than amateurs. I was truly grateful to see Emmitt, a jock, professional football player, someone who truly stepped out of the "man" stereotype to compete as a ballroom dancer. It was also rewarding to see someone who truly worked hard and made numerous improvements over the last few months win a truly deserved prize. If Mario Lopez would have won, I would have been disappointed. Why? Mario did not appear to make the same improvements over the course of the last few months. Mario broke the rules by attempting lifts and appeared to have no remorse about this. All I can say is that Emmitt truly deserved his trophy... Congratulations to a true champion in a totally different arena!!

Grey's Anatomy

I'm definitely a television serial addict. Everyone I work with knows that Grey's Anatomy is by far my favorite show in television. I have been completed engrossed in the lives of the interns at Seattle Grace Hospital. From Meredith's damage at the hands of Dr. McDreamy to Issie's ill-fated love interest with her patient, Denny, I have been totally engrossed! I just don't know how to survive the season finally -- who will Meredith choose?? Will she choose Dr. McDreamy who has been the love of her life since last season who has remained married to his wife? Or, will she choose Finn, the veternarian who has plans since meeting Meredith? Or, will she surprise everyone and choose neither one of them? I don't know if I will be able to wait until next season for this!!

American Idol Addict

All I can say is that I am absolutely addicted to Tuesday and Wednesday nights of American Idol. How I avoided this show for the past five seasons, I'll never know. My favorite continues to be Taylor Hicks. WHAT a PERFORMER!! I can honestly say that I have been a die-hard voter for Taylor. Last night alone, I voted eight times; last week was six times. That sultry voice and those awesome dance moves!! My hope for Taylor is that he is the next American Idol. However, should that fail, he will continue to have a solid fan base right here. GO TAYLOR!

T-Ball and other great sports

one and only son just began playing t-ball. This is his first adventure at playing a "team" sport. It is just amazing how he can just embarrass the heck out of his parents. The first game on Saturday was the epitome of how far can I push my parents. After arriving for opening day and batting the first inning, one and only son decided that he didn't want to stay and play on the field. This led to husband attempting to convince one and only son that he needed to stay on the field and help his team out. Unfortunately, one and only son decided to leave the field prompting me to take the field. One and only son remained continued the remainder of the game without much ado as long as "momma" was right there by his side. That leads to the game tonight, I informed one and only son that he could not have his mother on the field with him and he would need to stay on the field without his security blanket (otherwise known as momma). One and only son accomplished the task of staying on the field although he needed constant reminders to put his glove back on, put his hat back on, stand up, etc. The typical t-ball player events.

Momma goes to work via school

Today was a new first for me as a mother. My son has been in pre-school for the last two years and this week was dealing with different occupations. I offered to go in and tell the kids about my occupation. After I had offered to do this, I kept questioning myself if this was the right thing to do. (I didn't mention that I work in Child Protective Services.) All week I was perplexed as to what to tell the kids and what was crossing the line of being inappropriate. I wrote a short book telling the kids basically what my job as a caseworker was all about. This morning after I took my son to school and before I returned to the school for "my presentation", I thought about taking some of the things that caseworkers actually use on the job that are common every day things. I packed my "work bag" (as my son calls it) with a camera, pager, pens, papers, drug test, work identification, and business cards. The kids were more interested in what I used for my job than the book that I wrote. The most important thing that I wanted the kids to understand was that no matter what a caseworker's job was more about safety than about hurting someone.
